Richmond really doesn't have a website specific to the city. However, the media outlets in the city fulfill that need.
When Richmond's newspaper publication, The Palladium-Item, launched it's website in 2001, they couldn't have anticipated the impact it would have on the community. The site allows Wayne County residents to comment on news and sports stories. Obviously, this creates a lot of controversy, since these comments aren't always the most politically correct and are often offensive, insensitive and just plain ignorant. The Palladium Item really doesn't police the site, so it really showcases the ugly side of Richmond.
The local radio station G 101.3 has their own site that services the Wayne County area. It's called "Generation G", a play off the station's tag-line. Visitors to the site can create their own profile, interact with friends and DJs, share photos and videos, and participate in forums and discussions. It's basically Richmond's Facebook.
ECWORD.ORG is a joint website to the Earlham College news publication The Earlham Word. The site provides the same news stories as print, plus videos and photo galleries. Earlham allows user-input, but it's a lot more controlled. Visitors to the site can submit a comment, but it is screened by the newspaper staff and ten posted to the site. While this may raise censorship issues, it upholds the professionalism of the organization it's reputation or the city's.
